Hibernoma: an uncommon cause of a pleural mass

چکیده
Here, we report the case of a 37-year-old asymptomatic male patient who was referred because of abnormalities seen on a routine chest X-ray. The physical examination findings and laboratory test results were normal. A new chest X-ray revealed a large opacity in the left lower hemithorax. Chest CT revealed a heterogeneous pleural mass in the left lower hemithorax (Fig. 1). The mass appeared to be an extrapulmonary lesion arising from the chest wall. There were no calcifications. Complete surgical excision was performed. The gross specimen showed a well-circumscribed, encapsulated, soft, brownto-yellow mass, measuring 10 × 9 × 5 cm (Fig. 2A). The microscopic findings were diagnostic of a hibernoma (Fig. 2B). At this writing, the patient remains asymptomatic and subsequent follow-up evaluations have been unremarkable. Hibernomas are rare benign tumors that take their name from their histological similarity to the brown fat of hibernating animals, but also seen in the human fetus and to a diminishing degree with age in adults.(1-3) The distribution of this tumor follows the sites of persistence of brown fat. Hibernoma: a rare case of adipocytic tumor in head and neck.
Background Hibernoma is a rare soft tissue tumor stem from persistent fetal brown fat tissue. This benign tumor may occasionally occur in head and neck area and, in most cases, is characterized by an asymptomatic slow growth. Case presentation We presented an uncommon case of hibernoma of the posterior cervical triangle occurring in a 30-year-old man referred to the department of otolaryngolo...
متن کاملImaging findings of a hibernoma of the neck.
Hibernoma is an uncommon benign fatty tumor that arises from the vestiges of fetal brown fat. We present a case report of a hibernoma of the neck in an asymptomatic 19-year-old girl and describe the important imaging findings. Computed tomography (CT) shows a well defined hypodense mass with septations. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) shows intermediate T1 and bright T2 signal of the mass and ...

ABSTRACTIntroductionEmpyema is an accumulation of pus in the pleural space. Empyema necessitans occurs when pus extends through the parietal pleura into the surrounding tissues.Case ReportWe present here a 4 month old babywith severe respiratory distress and anassociated huge boggy swelling over the left side of his chest and back. Evaluation revealed pus accumulated in the pleural space which ...
متن کاملAn Uncommon Cause of Neonatal Hypertension
Background: Adrenal hematoma is a very rare acquired cause of neonatal hypertension. In this study, we report a case of neonatal hypertension associated with adrenal hematoma. A male neonate was immediately transferred to our neonatal intensive care unit after delivery due to meconium aspiration. He needed to be on mechanical ventilation support. During his hospital stay, hospital records showe...
متن کاملHibernoma Showing High Uniform Accumulation on an 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography Scan: A Case Report
BACKGROUND Hibernoma is a rare, benign, soft tissue tumor arising from brown fat that cannot be distinguished from other lipogenic tumors on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. On the other hand, the image of hibernoma on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG-PET) is different from that of other lipogenic tumors. However, fewer studies have inv...
